              MGA

In October 2007 we started on the restoration of this very original MGA. Our job description for this car is to dismantle and dip the body, restore and paint the body and paint the chassis. The owner is going to do the assembly himself.

The body ready for dipping and the chassis ready for dismantling.

Post dipping photos showing the bare body shell and panels. The inner and outer sills and B pillars will need to be replaced as will the lower sections of the front and rear guards. There is rust in the rear of the boot floor and some dents and bumps but for a car of this age, not too bad.

While we are waiting for the new sills and pillars to arrive we took care of the dents and file finished the body and panels.

The rust in the rear corner of the boot was easily repaired with a few repair sections.

Sill panels, both inner and outer along with the B pillars were replaced along with the bottoms of the A pillars and lower sections of the side footwells. The repairs were the same for both sides.

With the new pillars and sills tacked back together, the guards and doors were trial fitted to ensure correct fit and alignment. The front guards needed lower repair sections and the rear guards needed lower front repair sections. With all the panels refitted and the alignment confirmed, the new sills and pillars were welded in. Then the car could be file finished before it was dismantled for painting.

With the body dismantled and removed from the chassis again, the paint preparation could be begin. When the body and panels were all primed, the body was refitted to the chassis and the panels again refitted so that it could be blocked down together.

Then the body was dismantled again, the underside seam sealed, stone guarded and painted Old English White with the engine bay and boot interior.

The completed body, painted and fitted up ready for delivery to the owner for him to play with in his garage.
