E Type Series 3 2 + 2

This very original V12 2 + 2 came to us in February 2007 requiring a body/paint restoration, rechroming of all exterior bright work and some mechanical work. The interior is superb, 100% original and will be retained.

We carefully dismantled the body and sent the doors, hatch and the dismantled bonnet to be alkaline dipped. The exterior of the bodyshell was paintstripped.

Some previous poor repairs were uncovered on the rear wheelarches, the lower front bonnet apron had some rust and damage, there was some rust under the fuel tank and there was some bumps and bruises but, apart from that, the body was in very good condition.

With the body and rust repairs all attended to, the old lead was melted out and we re-lead loaded and then file finished the entire outside of the car. The bonnet pieces and panels were all primed, the bonnet reassembled and then the panels refitted to the car so that they could be file finished in situ, confirming correct alignment and fit.

Now it was over to the spraypainters to apply the primer and rub down the body ready for painting.

The doors and rear hatch were the first items to be sprayed, the correct original Jaguar Dark Blue was retained as the choice of colour.

Following many hours of preparation, the car was finally in the booth for colour.

Assembly could now commence with all new seals and rubbers fitted and bumpers rechromed.

The bonnet was the last part of the car to be painted and the final part of the reassembly was to fit the rechromed bumpers and new chrome grille surrounds.

October 2007, finished and being loaded into a transporter to head south to Melbourne.
