 Daimler SIII 4.2

We commenced restoration of this tired looking SIII Daimler in May 2008. The car has all the usual rust, worn suspension and engine and tired interior that is typical of a lot of 20 year old Series 3's. The car is to be finished in British Racing Green  with magnolia trim.

Dismantling and paint removal of the body shell revealed rust in the floors, sills around the screens and the rear quarter panels. New floors and sills will be fitted and the other areas repaired.

The panels were alkaline dipped and de-rusted to reveal all! The doors are bad, one front guard quite rusty, the lower inner boot lid seam rusty, the bonnet has rust and cracks on the mounting surfaces and the lock pins have been torn out.

The body repairs begin.

New floors and outer sills will need to be fitted along with repair sections made and fitted to the inner sills, transmission tunnel, front toe boards, A pillars and chassis members.

Body repairs including inner sill repairs and major repairs to the pillars.

The sill and floors are welded in and now structurally the car is sound.

These pictures show the extensive repairs needed to the skirts and chassis rails.

Whilst the body is being attended to the engine was removed and dismantled, revealing the No1 piston on the verge of seizing. The engine will be completely rebuilt.
